Seattle Art Museum is excited to welcome back our 18th annual celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at SAM Downtown. View the installation featuring a monumental sculptural piece and tapete, or sand painting, inspired by the Oaxacan traditions of honoring their dead. Join us for a community reception with 20-piece brass band, Banda Gozona, performances and food on Friday, November 1. The reception is FREE and open to the public.
El Museo de Arte de Seattle (Seattle Art Museum) se complace dar la bienvenida a nuestra 15ª celebración anual del Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) en SAM Downtown. Visite la instaulacion de un tapete, o pintura de arena, inspirado por las tradiciones de Oaxaca para honrar a sus difuntos. Acompáñenos en una recepción comunitaria, con La Banda Gozona y comida, el viernes 1 de noviembre. La recepción es GRATUITA y abierta al público.
This annual tradition of creating temporal works is inspired by sand paintings made in the public squares for Day of the Dead celebrations in Oaxaca, Mexico. The scale of these works is amazing. They use dump trucks to bring in the sand!
